Ellen Langas at Girls Scouts "Century of the Girl Expo" in Philadelphia

Downingtown, PA – To help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts, author and former Girl Scout Ellen Langas will appear at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on Sunday, April 22 to conduct Girls Know How® Career Adventure Workshops at 10am and 11am during the 2012 Century of the Girl Expo. The weekend event offers two days of interactive workshops and fun for girls of all ages. Visit www.gsep.org for more information and tickets.

Members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 41600 recently were named Youth Literacy Hero award recipients during the Seventh Annual Literacy Heroes Awards, hosted by West Chester Public Library. Troop members created story boxes for the Overbrook School for the Blind’s lending library targeting preschoolers and kindergartners. The boxes each contained a children’s book, purchased with money earned from Girl Scout cookie sales, and story-related objects to explore through the sense of touch. While developing the project, troop members wore blindfolds to simulate lack of sight and learned simple Braille.
